Show Description:
Can Robots make Art? Especially when they are not trained to do so? Eliot
K Daughtry, conceptual artist from Oakland CA, tries to answer this question
by curating the first show of Model_23, a robot naive artist at MoMO Studio
in Kansas City, Missouri.
Model_23's illuminated cutout forms and object constructions form an installation
that resembles a "Robot City". Both wall hung and free standing
cutouts that combine city forms and shoji screen design will be displayed,
along with silhouetted robots, helicopters and SUVs. Model_23's collection
of technological relics will also be displayed, including a bullet riddled
hard drive, a broken fan, and other electronic flotsam.
This work of fiction might bring to mind such other artists as James Hampton
or Nick Bantock. Here is an alternate reality, realized in 3D. Model_23
will not be at the reception, but Mr. Daughtry will be around to answer
questions.
